For this special EU elections 2024 event Emma was invited to present a Northern Ireland perspective on Europe, neutrality, and global peace and security.
Following Brexit, Northern Ireland now represents one of the largest disenfranchised populations of EU citizens, the few opportunities for engagement at a European level are often restricted to the Northern Ireland Protocol. The people of Northern Ireland do not have a voice on key legislation such as the Artificial intelligence Act, Climate and Biodiversity laws, and the EU Migration Pact, despite being equally as affected by the dangers of AI, the impacts of climate change, and immigration policies.
